Why Choose Blue Tree Outdoor Living? What Sets Us Apart After 43 Years

We know you're comparing options. You should be. This is a significant investment in your home. Here's what we think you'll find when you look closely at who we are, how we work, and what happens after the project is done.

We're Not the Cheapest. We're the Last Company You'll Ever Need to Hire.

Blue Tree is a full-service residential design-build firm headquartered in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, serving homeowners throughout Southeastern PA, including Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Berks, and Philadelphia Counties. Founded in Norristown in 1983 and operating from Schwenksville since 2008, we design, build, and maintain custom outdoor living spaces including pools, landscapes, hardscapes, turf care, and ongoing maintenance, all under one roof, all with one team.

We've been in business for 43 years. We employ 70 to 90 professionals. Our average employee has been with us for 13 to 14 years. And we've never taken a shortcut to get here.

That matters because the contractor you choose isn't just building a patio or installing a pool. They're making decisions about drainage, grading, materials, and structural integrity that will affect your property for decades. You want the team that's been doing this long enough to know what goes wrong and experienced enough to prevent it.

Here are seven reasons homeowners across Southeastern Pennsylvania choose Blue Tree Outdoor Living.

Your Designer Is Your Point of Contact: From First Visit to Final Walkthrough

At most companies, a salesperson sells the job, hands it off, and you never see them again. It's the number one complaint we hear from homeowners who've worked with other contractors.

At Blue Tree Outdoor Living, the person who designs your project is the same person who walks the job site and answers your questions during construction. They aren't salespeople. They're designers with degrees in landscape architecture, horticulture, and landscape contracting from Penn State, Rutgers, Temple University, and Penn College of Technology.

That continuity matters. Your designer knows the grading challenges on your property, the drainage they planned for, and why one material was chosen over a cheaper alternative. When a question comes up mid-project, the person answering it is the same person who made the design decision.

One Team. One Roof. No Finger-Pointing Between Contractors.

Hire a pool company and they build the pool. Then you need a landscaper to fix the torn-up yard, a hardscaper for the patio, and someone else for lighting. When the drainage isn't right, everyone blames the other guy.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living ends that. Our five service divisions (Pools, Landscapes, Hardscapes, Healthy Yards, and Premier Outdoor Services) operate under one roof with one leadership team. Your pool designer coordinates with the landscape crew, your hardscape installer knows where the lighting conduit goes, and your drainage plan accounts for the patio, pool, and grade, because one team designed all of it.

That's what turnkey actually means: a single contract, a single point of accountability, and a finished product where every element works together.

One Team, One Roof. Or Five Companies Pointing Fingers.

Hire each trade separately and the drainage problem becomes everyone's fault but no one's job. With Blue Tree, five divisions answer to one team and one contract.

Free Design. Free Estimates. Zero Pressure.

You should see exactly what you're getting before you commit a dollar. Every Blue Tree Outdoor Living project starts with a free on-site consultation and a custom 3D design, with CAD renderings that place your project in your actual backyard, complete with your house, your neighbors' property lines, and accurate grade elevations.

This isn't a rough sketch on a napkin. It's a full virtual tour of your future outdoor space. You can see it, rotate it, and do a 3D flyby before a single shovel hits the ground.

If the design isn't right, we revise it at no charge. If the budget needs to shift, we value-engineer the project, adjusting materials, phasing the work, or rescoping to fit your comfort zone. We'd rather build the right project in two phases than push you into something you can't enjoy.

No high-pressure sales. If the design is right and the value is clear, you'll move forward when you're ready.

We Know What You're Worried About. Let's Talk About It.

Every Blue Tree designer hears the same three concerns. Here's how we handle each one, before you have to ask.

1

It's more expensive than I expected.

A real investment, and we never spring a surprise number on you. Your designer value-engineers the project to fit your budget: swap materials, adjust scope, or phase the work. Financing is available too.

2

How long will this take?

We give honest timelines, even when we're booked a few months out. That wait is the reason you're considering us: people trust us enough to wait for quality work. A couple of summer months buys decades of enjoyment.

3

How do I know you're actually good?

Read our Google reviews, walk our portfolio, and ask about our 13 to 14 year average tenure and 43 year history through the 2008 recession and the pandemic. We'll connect you with past clients near you, or meet our team and read our story. Companies that cut corners don't survive four decades.

When We Added Pools, We Hired a 20-Year Veteran. We Didn't Wing It.

Around 2011, Blue Tree Outdoor Living kept hearing the same complaint: a homeowner's pool builder sold the job and disappeared. Nobody planned the drainage, coordinated the landscape, or answered questions after installation.

Jeff Mattiola and Chad Ochnich knew Blue Tree could solve that. They also knew building pools is nothing like cutting grass wrong and overseeding to fix it. Build a pool wrong and it's a permanent problem.

So they didn't guess. They hired a pool construction professional with over 20 years of experience, partnered with Jandy (Fluidra) for premium equipment chosen for quality, reputation, and responsive post-sale support, and accepted that the division would lose money for the first few years while they built it right.

The first year, Blue Tree Outdoor Living built four pools.

Today the pool division is led by two certified construction managers with a combined 53+ years of experience, designing and building everything from straightforward backyard pools to resort-style spaces with grottos, waterfalls, slides, and sheer descents.

That same philosophy, do it right or don't do it, applies everywhere. When we added mosquito and tick control, we brought in Mark Peasley, a Penn State graduate with nearly 20 years across university trial research, professional athletic fields, and championship golf course conditioning. When we build pergolas and pavilions, we partner with specialists but manage the project as general contractor: one contract, one schedule, one point of accountability.

Our Average Employee Has Been Here for 13 to 14 Years. In This Industry, That's Unheard Of.

The landscaping and construction industry has brutal turnover. Crews change constantly, and the person who installed your neighbor's patio last year may already be gone.

At Blue Tree Outdoor Living, average employee tenure is 13 to 14 years, and some team members have been here 15 to 20 years. That long tenure translates into three things you'll experience as a client.

Consistency. The crew that starts your project is the crew that finishes it. They know each other, work together efficiently, and don't need retraining on your site.

Institutional knowledge. Our team has seen every soil condition, drainage challenge, and grading problem Southeastern PA can throw at them, so when an unexpected issue arises, they handle it without panic.

Accountability. People who've been with a company for a decade care about its reputation, because it's their reputation too. They're building a career on the quality of their work.

The Relationship Doesn't End When the Invoice Is Paid.

What separates Blue Tree Outdoor Living from most contractors isn't what happens during the project. It's what happens after.

We offer a one-year, one-time replacement warranty on all plant material from installation, and a two-year warranty on hardscape work. Pool warranties are comprehensive: a lifetime structural warranty on the pool shell, a three-year workmanship warranty on Fluidra equipment, two years on plumbing, electrical, tile, coping, veneer, low-voltage lighting, and fencing, and one year on decking. Interior finishes range from one year (white plaster) to 10 years (quality finish). Full details are published on our warranties page.

But warranties are just the starting point. Our Premier Outdoor Services division exists to protect your investment after installation: seasonal maintenance, pool service, paver restoration, bed maintenance, and pruning. The same company that designed and built your space maintains it year-round.

We also provide watering guides, plant care instructions, and maintenance schedules for every landscape project. Our turf care specialist, Mark Peasley, personally walks clients through what their lawn needs, with specific guidance based on your soil, sunlight, and the plants on your property.

Some of our client relationships are 25 to 30 years old. We're doing work for the children of our original clients. That's not a warranty. That's a relationship.

Common Questions

Three structural differences. Blue Tree Outdoor Living runs Pools, Landscapes, Hardscapes, Healthy Yards, and Premier Outdoor Services in-house under one roof, with one designer leading every project. The team carries 13 to 14 year average employee tenure and over 100 years of combined design experience across 8 or more degreed designers. Pricing is transparent: named ranges, itemized proposals, and a fixed-scope quote, instead of the contractor pattern of low-bid-then-up-charge. Forty-three years of Southeastern PA experience sits underneath it.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living provides lasting value rather than the lowest price. The pricing reflects degreed designers, premium materials, proper base preparation, and comprehensive warranties. Blue Tree also offers phased project approaches and financing options to make a project more manageable. When you compare the total cost of coordinating several separate contractors against one team handling everything, the single-team approach is often more cost-effective in the end.

Designers, not salespeople. Blue Tree Outdoor Living has eight or more designers and sales professionals on staff with over 100 years of combined design experience. Several hold degrees from Delaware Valley College, Penn State, and similar landscape architecture or horticulture programs. The designer leads the discovery, draws the plan, manages the build, and stays with you through warranty. As Jérôme Besnard puts it, "We're more designers than salesmen." Compensation isn't structured around closing on the first visit.

The lifetime structural warranty covers the structural integrity of every concrete pool shell Blue Tree Outdoor Living builds, for as long as the original homeowner owns the property. Structural integrity means the shell stays watertight and intact under normal use. Cosmetic finishes like plaster and tile have their own warranty terms. The lifetime warranty exists because concrete pools, built right by certified construction managers like Mike Wadsworth (Certified Building Professional, concrete pool concentration) and Cliff Doratt, are engineered to outlast the homeowner's tenure in the home.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living runs in-house crews on every concrete pool build, with Senior Pool Construction Manager Mike Wadsworth (Certified Building Professional) leading pool construction alongside Cliff Doratt, who joined the team in March 2026 (combined 53+ years of pool construction industry experience). National builders typically subcontract local installs, which means crew quality varies project to project. Blue Tree's depth in Southeastern PA (43 years, seven-county focus) also matters for navigating township permits, impervious surface ordinances, and the freeze-thaw cycle. Same designer from first visit through warranty, same crew through construction.

You call your designer or Blue Tree Outdoor Living's service team. Blue Tree crews handle the response directly. With 13 to 14 year average employee tenure, the person who built the project is still on staff when the issue surfaces. The lifetime structural warranty backs the pool shell, the 3-year Jandy workmanship covers equipment, the 2-year hardscape warranty covers patios and walls, and the 1-year landscape replacement covers plant material. In-house crews mean no finger-pointing between trades.

No. Blue Tree Outdoor Living builds custom concrete pools only. We don't do vinyl liner pools, fiberglass pools, or above-ground pools. The reason is structural longevity: a vinyl liner needs replacement every 5 to 10 years, and a fiberglass shell limits you to whatever shapes the manufacturer trucks in. Concrete pools, built right, carry a lifetime structural warranty. That structural confidence is why Blue Tree chose concrete only when we launched pool construction in 2011. Concrete and gunite spas integrated with the pool itself are in scope and serviced; standalone hot tubs are not on offer today.

A custom concrete inground pool in Southeastern PA runs $80,000 to $160,000 for a complete Blue Tree Outdoor Living build, including 3D rendering, township permits, excavation, gunite shell, plaster, decking, and Jandy equipment. The lifetime structural warranty on every shell and the 10-year Quality Finish plaster warranty come standard. Final pricing depends on size, shape, plaster grade, decking selection, accessories, features, and surrounding hardscape.

Absolutely. Blue Tree Outdoor Living regularly works with homeowners to phase a project over time. Your designer identifies the base platform, the elements that need to happen first for structural and drainage reasons, and then schedules later phases like lighting or landscape enhancements when you're ready. Phasing keeps the overall design cohesive while making the investment more manageable, so you can build the right project in stages rather than compromise the design to fit a single budget cycle.

Yes. Blue Tree Outdoor Living partners with three specialized pool and home improvement lenders: HFS Financial, Viking Capital, and Lyon Financial. Each has different rate structures and term options, so the right lender depends on the project size, your credit profile, and whether you want a secured or unsecured loan. Blue Tree doesn't do in-house financing because specialized lenders give homeowners better terms than a contractor could match. Pre-qualification is a soft credit pull that won't affect your score.
