LED Landscape Lighting in Southeastern Pennsylvania

The right lighting turns a yard you only use in daylight into one that works after dark, and it does it on a fraction of the energy old systems used. Blue Tree designs and installs low-voltage LED landscape lighting that adds safety, security, and a warm, finished look to the property. For 43 years, our designers have lit homes, gardens, and pools across Southeastern Pennsylvania.

What Sets Blue Tree's Landscape Lighting Apart

A pile of fixtures from a big-box store is not a lighting design. Blue Tree treats lighting as part of the landscape, planned by a designer who knows how light reads at night. We layer uplighting on specimen trees, soft path lighting, and accent lighting on the house and hardscape, then tune brightness and color temperature so the property looks intentional, not floodlit. Systems are low-voltage LED, professionally wired and zoned, with transformers and fixtures built to last outdoors through our winters. Blue Tree has designed lighting across Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Berks, and Philadelphia Counties since 1983.

Our Landscape Lighting Process, Step by Step

From the first nighttime walk to the final adjustment, one designer manages your lighting. Here is how it comes together.
1

Step 1: Free On-Site Consultation

A Blue Tree designer walks your property, ideally at dusk, to see how light will actually read: which trees to uplight, where paths need to be safe, and how the house should look from the street. We talk through how you use the yard at night and the mood you want. The visit is free with no same-day pressure. Timeline: 1 visit, about 60 minutes.
2

Step 2: Custom Design and 3D Renderings

Your designer plans fixture placement, beam angles, brightness, and color temperature, and zones the system for how you live. Where it helps, we show the lighting concept in context so you can picture the result before installation. Timeline: 1 to 2 weeks.
3

Step 3: Materials, Proposal, and Permitting

Blue Tree specifies professional-grade LED fixtures and transformers, prices the system as one itemized proposal, and handles any electrical permitting. You see exactly which fixtures and zones you are getting before you sign. Timeline: 1 to 2 weeks.
4

Step 4: Professional Installation

Crews run low-voltage wiring cleanly, mount and aim each fixture, and set transformers and controls. Then we tune the system at night, adjusting aim and brightness fixture by fixture. Timeline: 1 to 3 days.
5

Step 5: Aftercare & Warranty

Blue Tree walks the finished system with you after dark, sets your scenes and schedules, and reviews fixture and labor warranty terms in writing. LED systems are low-maintenance, and we are available for adjustments as plantings grow. Timeline: same day as completion.

Built for Southeastern Pennsylvania's Seasons

Outdoor lighting in Southeastern Pennsylvania has to hold up through freeze-thaw winters, wet springs, and humid summers. Blue Tree uses IP65-rated and IP67-rated low-voltage LED fixtures for above-grade and in-grade applications, with outdoor-rated wire connectors and weather-sealed transformers. LED systems draw a fraction of the power of older halogen installations: a well-designed 15-fixture system typically runs on 100 to 150 watts versus 400 or more watts for the equivalent halogen layout, which makes a larger design cost less to run year over year. For color temperature, most properties in our region benefit from 2700K to 3000K warm white, which flatters the stone, brick, and wood tones common on colonial, farmhouse, and craftsman-style homes in Montgomery and Chester Counties. Contemporary and transitional properties sometimes call for 4000K neutral white at accents and entries. Blue Tree works with fixtures from Cast Lighting, VOLT Lighting, and FX Luminaire, sized and zoned through a multi-zone transformer so different areas of the yard can be adjusted or put on separate timers. The design and installation team has worked across Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Berks, and Philadelphia Counties since 1983.

Common Questions

LED landscape lighting from Blue Tree Outdoor Living ranges from $1,500 to $3,500 for a basic path and accent package on a typical southeastern PA residential property, and $5,000 to $20,000 or more for a comprehensive design with uplighting, hardscape integration, and smart controls. Individual Cast Lighting fixtures run $200 to $800 each depending on the fixture type and wattage. Smart Wi-Fi transformer controls, which allow smartphone scheduling and scene programming, add $500 to $1,500 to the system cost depending on zone count. This is an investment in curb appeal, safety, and property value. Homes with professional landscape lighting consistently sell faster and at a measurable premium in the Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Berks, and Philadelphia County markets Blue Tree serves.

Cast Lighting and FX Luminaire fixtures, the two brands Blue Tree Outdoor Living installs, are commercial-grade IP67-rated products engineered for permanent outdoor installation in the wet, humid conditions of southeastern PA. IP67 rating means the fixtures are fully sealed against dust and can withstand immersion in water to 1 meter depth. Big-box aluminum mushroom fixtures and similar consumer-grade products are typically rated IP44 or lower, which is adequate for light splashing but not sustained rain, ground-level humidity, and the freeze-thaw conditions that southeastern PA experiences from October through March. Consumer-grade fixtures routinely corrode and fail within 2 seasons in this climate, requiring replacement at similar or greater total cost than professional fixtures that last 15 to 25 years with normal maintenance.

2700K warm white is the correct color temperature for nearly every residential landscape lighting application. It reads as warm, inviting, and natural against the wood, stone, and plant material common in southeastern PA landscape designs. 3000K is a clinical, commercial-grade white that is appropriate for parking lots and retail storefronts, but it makes residential plantings look flat and washed out at night. The common mistake is mixing 2700K and 3000K fixtures across the same property, which creates a visually inconsistent effect that undermines the entire nighttime landscape. This happens most often when homeowners add fixtures piecemeal over time or supplement a professionally installed system with big-box additions. Blue Tree Outdoor Living specifies all fixtures at 2700K across the system to maintain a coherent, warm, residential character from the street.

Astronomical timer controls, which are standard on all smart lighting systems Blue Tree Outdoor Living installs, automatically calculate local sunrise and sunset times based on your GPS coordinates and adjust on and off times daily throughout the year. In southeastern PA, the variation between the longest summer day (about 14.5 hours of daylight in late June) and the shortest winter day (about 9.5 hours in late December) is roughly 5 hours, meaning a simple dusk-to-dawn timer is insufficient without reprogramming throughout the year. Astronomical controls eliminate that manual adjustment entirely. Smart Wi-Fi transformers from brands like Cast Lighting add smartphone control, zone scene programming, and remote troubleshooting capability. A Dawn/Dusk photosensor is included as a backup for overcast days when the astronomical calculation could extend into daylight.

Exterior landscape lighting circuits in Pennsylvania must comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), which requires GFCI protection on all exterior circuits. Low-voltage systems (12V) operating from a dedicated transformer do not require a separate electrical permit in most southeastern PA municipalities because they run from a single standard outlet connection at the transformer. However, if the installation requires a new dedicated exterior outlet, a licensed electrician must pull an electrical permit for that outlet installation in virtually all Montgomery, Bucks, and Chester County townships. A critical calculation point: transformer load must be specified at no more than 80 percent of the transformer's rated capacity to prevent tripping and fixture lifespan reduction. Blue Tree Outdoor Living calculates total fixture wattage load and specifies transformer capacity accordingly before any system design is finalized.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living has been installing landscape lighting in southeastern PA for 43 years, and Cast Lighting and FX Luminaire have consistently delivered the best 10-year performance record in this climate. Both brands are manufactured to commercial specifications with solid brass and copper housings that resist corrosion in southeastern PA's humid summers and freeze-thaw winters. Cast Lighting's transformer lineup, in particular, supports the smart astronomical timer controls and Wi-Fi zone management our customers expect from a modern lighting system. FX Luminaire's LED modules are field-replaceable, which means a fixture that outlasts its original LED can be relamped without replacing the housing. These are not consumer-grade products repackaged for professional distribution. They are professional tools. That is why our 13 to 14 year average employee tenure matters in this service category because experienced crews know how to specify and install these systems correctly the first time.
