Blossom & Bloom: Answers to Your Landscaping Questions
When is the best time to plan?
This depends on your time frame of when you would like the project to be completed. If you allow one to two months in advance of your project deadline, this will allow time to plan, develop a custom design, contract the project as well as getting on schedule
Why hire a professional landscaping company?

Professional landscapers ensure quality work and with that comes their extensive knowledge of landscape design and maintenance, getting the right plants and greenery that will thrive in your area, as well as save you time and money in the long run!
What is the best time of year to install the landscaping?
Landscaping is cyclical. While one season may work for certain things, it may not work for others. In general, landscaping can be done year around depending upon temperature, ground conditions and watering requirement. Spring planting requires regular watering while fall planting does not require as much water.
What is the difference between landscaping and hardscaping?
Landscape, or softscape, refers to the living and growing parts of your lawn, like trees, flowers, and shrubs. Hardscape refers to the solid, inanimate parts of your lawn, like the rocks, pavers, and retaining walls, as well as structures like a gazebo or pergola.
What is the difference between annuals and perennials?
Annuals grow for one season and then die off after the cold weather arrives. Perennials grow for multiple seasons, blooming again after the spring thaw. Common annuals to Pennsylvania include marigolds, petunias, geraniums, impatiens and zinnias. Common perennials to Pennsylvania include Astible, Coneflower, Coralbells, Salvia, Catmint, Dianthus, etc.
Is an irrigation system necessary and should I install one?
An irrigation system allows for more controlled and scheduled water use, something your lawn, plants and trees will thank you for. While not necessary in keeping your landscaping perfect, irrigation systems do offer many benefits, including:
- Irrigation systems allow you to avoid overwatering or underwatering your yard.
- Plants and lawns will receive adequate water on a regular basis, leaving you with lush greenery and vibrant colors.
- Avoid water waste by using an irrigation system and maintaining its settings to what works best for the season. Create a seasonal schedule for each zone of your property.
How often should I water my plants?
Plants aren’t in need of water on a daily basis, rather they need a good deep watering less frequently. Once a week should suffice.
Is it possible to permanently get rid of weeds in my landscaping?
While there are ways to control your weeds there is no way to permanently get rid of weeds. The best way to maintain your weed growth is to clean up your beds, apply a pre-emergent weed control and mulch yearly and pull weeds by the roots when they appear to prevent them from coming back and when you have pesky weeds such at thistle or mum weed you need to treat them with herbicides.
