The Pool Builder Problem
Few Talk About

Most pool builders sell you a pool and disappear. The shell, coping, and concrete get delivered. Grading, drainage, landscape restoration, and lighting are your problem to coordinate with other contractors on a different timeline. Blue Tree entered pool construction 15 years ago to fix this at the source. Our landscape clients kept calling us in to clean up what pool builders left behind. Now every Blue Tree pool project includes:
  • Grading and drainage integrated into the pool design
  • Landscape restoration planned before the pool breaks ground
  • Lighting conduit run during construction, not added as an afterthought
  • One team coordinating pool, hardscape, and landscape from start to finish

Custom Pools Designed and Built as Part of Your Complete Outdoor Space

Custom pool design and construction means engineering a concrete inground pool, using gunite or shotcrete methods, purpose-built for your property's terrain, soil conditions, drainage patterns, and your vision for outdoor living. Blue Tree Outdoor Living designs every pool project as an integrated backyard transformation:
  • The pool, landscape, hardscape, lighting, and drainage planned as one design
  • Built by one team and managed by one designer from first consultation through final walkthrough
  • 3D renderings so you see the transformed backyard before excavation begins
  • Jandy equipment standard for long-term efficiency and smart automation
  • A lifetime structural warranty on every pool

The Blue Tree Complete Backyard Process

Blue Tree coordinates each pool project from the first conversation through start-up. Design, construction, and the surrounding outdoor space are planned through one team, with the sequence tailored to the property, pool type, approvals, and agreed scope. President and Co-Owner Jeff Mattiola has guided Blue Tree's pool construction work for 15 years, building on the company's 43 years of landscape and hardscape experience.
1

Step 1: Discovery Consultation

A Blue Tree designer visits your property to understand access, slope, drainage, sunlight, how you want to use the yard, and the priorities shaping your budget. The consultation gives both sides the context needed to define the right next step.
2

Step 2: Custom Design and 3D Renderings

Your designer develops a coordinated plan for the pool and surrounding outdoor space. Depending on scope, that may include hardscape, landscape, lighting, drainage, and fencing. You review the design and make informed adjustments before construction begins.
3

Step 3: Permitting and Engineering, When Required

Blue Tree identifies the approvals and technical documentation required for your property and project scope. The team coordinates the permit and engineering items included in the proposal and confirms any homeowner responsibilities before work begins.
4

Step 4: Excavation and Pool Structure

The team prepares and excavates the site. For a concrete pool, crews install the steel framework before forming the shell. For a fiberglass pool, the prebuilt shell is placed in the prepared excavation. Your project team coordinates the work and communicates progress.
5

Step 5: Plumbing, Electrical, and Pool Shell

The plumbing and electrical systems are installed for the approved design. A concrete pool shell is formed in place with gunite or shotcrete. A fiberglass shell is leveled, backfilled, and connected according to the project plan.
6

Step 6: Finish, Coping, and Equipment

The team installs coping and the specified Jandy pumps, heating, filtration, lighting, and controls. A concrete pool receives its selected waterline tile and interior finish. A fiberglass pool arrives with its molded gelcoat finish.
7

Step 7: Landscape, Hardscape, and Site Restoration

The surrounding space comes together according to the approved plan. Depending on scope, that may include decking, hardscape, grading, drainage, planting, and lighting. Blue Tree coordinates this work with the pool instead of treating the yard as a separate project.
8

Step 8: Fill, Start-Up, and Walkthrough

The pool is filled, the water is prepared, and the equipment is commissioned. Blue Tree then walks you through operation, routine care, warranty coverage, and the next steps for ongoing service.

What Our Clients Say

Blue tree installed our pool and decking. They did a great job and were always available for our questions or to explain the process. Would recommend them to anyone considering a pool.

Blue Tree Landscaping did a beautiful job enhancing our pool area. We met the team on several occasions before work started so they knew exactly what we wanted and needed. The work crew, including Jose Z, Javier, and Blake were timely, professional, and definitely left our pool and yard area much better than they found it. Very happy with our early spring improvements!

Truly an excellent experience working with blue tree. Have used them several times now. Pool, landscaping, and now a beautiful stone patio. Strongly recommend

Common Questions

A custom inground pool alone typically falls in the $75,000 to $200,000+ range. Complete backyard projects that combine the pool with landscape and hardscape work typically range from $150,000 to $400,000+. Size, finish, equipment, access, site conditions, and surrounding features shape the final proposal.

Yes. Blue Tree Outdoor Living offers financing on pool projects through established home improvement and pool lending partners, so you can spread the investment over time rather than paying for the full project upfront. Rates and terms depend on the lender and your qualifications. Visit the Blue Tree financing page to review options and apply.

Timing depends on the pool type, design, permitting, weather, access, inspections, and site conditions. Blue Tree provides a project-specific schedule after evaluating the property and confirming scope. Full backyard projects may take longer because pool, landscape, and hardscape work are coordinated as one plan.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living builds both gunite and fiberglass pools. Gunite is sprayed concrete over a steel rebar frame and can be customized in shape, depth, and finish. Blue Tree's written warranty provides a lifetime structural warranty on the concrete pool shell for the original homeowner, subject to its stated conditions and exclusions. Fiberglass pools are pre-formed shells that can install faster and offer a smooth, low-maintenance finish. Blue Tree helps you compare the options for your yard. Blue Tree does not build vinyl liner pools.

Pool projects commonly require municipal permits and may also involve zoning, setback, barrier, electrical, engineering, or stormwater requirements. The exact approvals depend on the property and applicable authority. Blue Tree coordinates the requirements included in your project scope and confirms any homeowner responsibilities before construction.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living installs Jandy pool equipment, made by Fluidra, including variable-speed pumps, heaters, filtration, and Wi-Fi automation through Jandy's iAquaLink system. Each component carries its own manufacturer warranty. Blue Tree standardized on Jandy for equipment quality and manufacturer support.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living can often phase a project to fit your priorities and budget, such as building the pool first and adding selected landscape, hardscape, or outdoor features later. Planning the whole yard up front helps each phase fit one coordinated design.

Pool excavation disrupts the yard, so Blue Tree Outdoor Living plans grading and restoration around the agreed project scope. Because Blue Tree builds pools, landscapes, and hardscapes under one roof, the surrounding area can also include patios, plantings, and other outdoor living features within one coordinated plan.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living designs the pool as part of the whole yard, not as a standalone feature. Pools, landscapes, and hardscapes are planned through one team, so the patio, plantings, retaining walls, and outdoor living spaces can be coordinated with the pool from the beginning.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living has served Southeastern PA since 1983 and coordinates pools, landscapes, and hardscapes through one team. That integrated approach keeps the pool and surrounding outdoor space within one design plan. Blue Tree's written warranty provides lifetime structural coverage on the concrete pool shell for the original homeowner, subject to the stated conditions and exclusions.

Blue Tree's written warranty provides a lifetime structural warranty on the concrete pool shell for the original homeowner, subject to its stated conditions and exclusions. Quality Finish plaster has a 10-year limited warranty, and white plaster has a 1-year limited warranty. Pumps, heaters, filters, and other pool equipment are covered by the applicable Blue Tree workmanship and manufacturer terms. Blue Tree reviews the project-specific coverage before construction.

Ongoing pool costs depend on water care, energy use, equipment, service needs, and seasonal opening and closing. Blue Tree Outdoor Living offers ongoing pool care through its Premier Outdoor Services team, so the company that built your pool can also maintain it.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living builds both saltwater and traditional chlorine pools. Each uses chlorine for sanitation, but the equipment, routine care, water feel, and upfront cost differ. The team helps you compare both options based on your priorities, budget, and preferred maintenance routine.

Pool closing is tailored to the pool, equipment, cover, and seasonal conditions. It typically includes preparing the water, plumbing, and equipment for freezing weather and securing the cover. Blue Tree Outdoor Living offers pool closing and winterization through its Premier Outdoor Services team.

The right time to begin depends on design complexity, permitting, site conditions, and the current construction schedule. Starting the conversation well before your preferred swim season gives the team more room to coordinate design and approvals. Blue Tree will confirm current availability during your consultation.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living builds custom inground pools across Southeastern PA, serving Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Berks, and Philadelphia Counties. The team coordinates design and construction from its design center in Schwenksville. Project-specific soil conditions and local requirements are reviewed for each property during design and preconstruction.

Your Pool is Part of Something Bigger

The best pool projects extend beyond the coping stone. The landscape around your pool needs plants that handle reflected heat and chlorine splash, the hardscape needs materials that stay cool underfoot and drain correctly, lighting extends the pool's usable hours, and drainage protects the pool shell and your foundation from storm water. Blue Tree Outdoor Living designs all of these as one integrated plan, and the same company coordinates every crew before construction begins.
