Why Blue Tree Builds in Concrete

Concrete is the most durable, most flexible way to build a pool, and it is the only way Blue Tree builds. The shell is formed on your property, shot over a steel reinforcement cage, so it can take any shape, any depth, and any built-in feature you can picture. A pre-made unit cannot do that. A concrete pool can also be resurfaced and updated over decades instead of replaced. Blue Tree has built concrete pools across Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Berks, and Philadelphia Counties since 2011, a 15-year pool construction track record under a company that has served the region since 1983. A degreed designer plans the pool and the yard around it, construction is led by managers with decades in the pool industry, and every shell carries a lifetime structural warranty.

How a Concrete Pool Comes Together

A concrete pool is built in stages, on site, by one Blue Tree team. Here is how the shell goes from a steel cage in the ground to a finished pool ready to swim.
1

Step 1: Design & Permitting

Your designer plans the pool and the space around it, then sets the shape, depth, and features in 3D before anything is built. Blue Tree handles township building permits, electrical permits, impervious surface calculations, and engineering review in-house. Requirements vary by municipality across Southeastern PA, and the specific ones for your property are confirmed during site evaluation, so construction starts with every approval in place.
2

Step 2: Excavation & Steel

Crews dig the hole to the exact profile of your design, then set a grid of steel rebar that reinforces the entire shell. This cage is what gives a concrete pool its strength and its freedom of shape. Plumbing and electrical are roughed in at this stage, before the concrete goes on, so every line sits where the design calls for it.
3

Step 3: Gunite or Shotcrete Shell

Concrete is sprayed under pressure over the steel cage to form the pool shell, gunite or shotcrete depending on the project. The crew shapes the walls, floor, steps, benches, and any built-in features by hand as the material goes on. The shell then cures into a single dense structure, which is why a concrete pool can hold a custom shape that a pre-made unit never could.
4

Step 4: Tile, Coping & Plaster

Waterline tile and coping stone finish the edge of the pool, and the interior is coated in plaster, the surface you see and feel underwater. Plaster is the part of a concrete pool that is renewed over time, so the structure underneath keeps its life. Jandy equipment goes in at this stage too: pumps, heaters, filtration, and automation, all installed and commissioned by the same crew.
5

Step 5: Fill, Start-Up & Warranty

The pool is filled, the water chemistry is balanced, and the equipment is started up and dialed in. The surrounding site is restored by the same team: grading, drainage, planting, and any hardscape, with no second contractor to schedule. Your designer walks you through operation and care, and you leave with the warranty terms in writing, including the lifetime structural warranty on the shell.

What Concrete Makes Possible

Because the shell is shaped on site, concrete construction lets the design follow your property instead of a preset mold. These are the features Southeastern PA homeowners build into a concrete pool.

Any Shape, Any Size

Geometric, freeform, lap, or plunge. The shell is formed to your yard, so the pool fits the site instead of the site bending to fit a pre-made pool.

Custom Depths & Profiles

Shallow lounging areas, deeper swimming ends, and tanning ledges, all planned into the shell. Depth follows how your family swims, not a factory standard.
A stucco house with white-trimmed windows sits beside a landscaped garden with large rocks, shrubs, and stone steps leading up from a curved poolside patio under a partly cloudy sky.

Integrated Spas

Concrete spas formed into the pool, including raised and spillover designs, heated for evenings and shoulder seasons.

Vanishing & Perimeter Edges

Infinity edges and perimeter-overflow designs that turn the water line into a clean horizon, built into the shell from the start.
Construction workers build circular concrete forms on a dirt site surrounded by trees. Blue and orange tarps cover some areas, and gravel is spread within the forms. Tools and materials are scattered nearby.

Built-In Steps, Benches & Ledges

Entry steps, swim-out benches, and sun ledges formed in concrete during construction, so they are part of the structure, not an add-on.

Water Features Formed In

Concrete Built for Southeastern
Pennsylvania's Freeze and Thaw

A concrete pool in Southeastern Pennsylvania goes through dozens of freeze-thaw cycles every winter, so the steel-reinforced shell is engineered for ground movement and moisture from the first day of design. Clay-heavy soils across the region hold water, which makes drainage part of the plan rather than an afterthought. Rock sits close to the surface on many properties and shapes how the hole is dug, and township impervious surface rules can limit pool size and decking area. Blue Tree has built concrete pools through these conditions across Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Berks, and Philadelphia Counties since 1983, handles permitting in-house, and backs every shell with a lifetime structural warranty.

Common Questions

A concrete pool is built on site, shot over a steel reinforcement cage, so the shell can take any shape, size, depth, or built-in feature you want. It is the most durable option Blue Tree builds, and it is the only type Blue Tree builds. A well-cared-for concrete pool lasts decades, and the structure can be resurfaced and updated over its life rather than replaced. Every Blue Tree concrete shell carries a lifetime structural warranty.

Both apply concrete under pressure to form the pool shell, and both produce a dense, steel-reinforced structure. Gunite is a dry mix that picks up water at the spray nozzle. Shotcrete arrives pre-mixed and wet. Blue Tree builds with both methods and selects the right one for each project. The finished shell is the same in what matters: strength, design flexibility, and the ability to stand up to Southeastern Pennsylvania winters.

The concrete shell is built to last for decades. The interior plaster finish is the part that wears, and it is renewed during a resurfacing rather than rebuilt. A White plaster finish carries a one-year limited warranty and a Quality Finish carries a 10-year limited warranty. The structural shell itself carries a lifetime structural warranty, which is why a concrete pool can be updated and refinished over the years instead of replaced.

Yes. Because the shell is formed on site rather than dropped in as a pre-made unit, the design follows your property and the way your family will use the space. Blue Tree builds geometric pools with clean lines, freeform pools that curve with the yard, vanishing-edge designs, integrated spas, tanning ledges, custom steps, and built-in benches. Depth and the position of features are planned into the shell during design, so the finished pool fits the site instead of forcing the site to fit the pool.

After design and permitting, crews excavate the hole, set a steel rebar cage, and rough in the plumbing and electrical. The concrete is then sprayed over the steel to form the shell and left to cure. Tile and coping go on next, followed by the interior plaster finish and the Jandy equipment. The pool is filled, the water is balanced, and your designer walks you through operation and warranty coverage. One Blue Tree team manages every stage.

Yes. Municipalities across our service area require a building permit for inground pool construction, and most require an electrical permit as well. Many townships also enforce impervious surface limits that affect pool size and decking. Township permits, impervious surface calculations, and engineering review vary by municipality, and specific requirements are confirmed during site evaluation. Blue Tree handles permitting in-house, from filing the applications to coordinating township inspections.
