Why Worcester Homeowners Have Trusted Blue Tree Since 1983

Our story started in 1983, and our headquarters is minutes away on Skippack Pike in Schwenksville. We have designed and built across Worcester Township for more than four decades. What began as a small residential landscape operation has grown into a full-service design-build firm with 70 to 90 team members, six degree-holding designers with a combined 100-plus years of experience, and a production calendar that spans pools, patios, landscapes, turf care, and year-round maintenance.
Our headquarters sits at 4494 Skippack Pike, just minutes from Worcester. We do not commute from an hour away to work on your property. We file permits with Worcester Township, we know the clay soils and open, exposed terrain of the township, and we understand what it takes to build well on Worcester's larger lots and horse-country properties.
What matters most to us is the relationship. We are building pools and patios for the children of clients we worked with 25 years ago. Our designers develop friendships with homeowners that last long after the project is complete. As Jeff, our founder, was told early on: "All you have in life is your reputation." That advice has guided every decision we have made for more than four decades, and it is why Worcester homeowners continue to trust Blue Tree with their most important outdoor projects.

Custom Pool Construction

Blue Tree Outdoor Living is one of the only full-service design-build firms serving Worcester that handles custom pool construction in-house, from design and permitting through excavation, plumbing, plaster, and decking. We have been building inground pools for 15 years using premium Jandy equipment, and our approach is different: we do not just build the pool and leave. We design the entire backyard environment, including the pool, patio, landscaping, lighting, and drainage, as one integrated project. That is what turnkey means at Blue Tree.

Landscape Design & Installation

Our landscape design and installation services are led by degree-holding designers who create custom plans using CAD software and 3D renderings. We source approximately 90 percent of our plant material from local growers, design for four-season interest and long-term performance, and back every planting with a one-year warranty. Whether you need a foundation planting refresh, a native garden installation, or a complete property transformation, our design team builds the plan around your vision, lifestyle, and budget.

Designed for Worcester's Climate, Soil, and Character

Worcester Township sits in the open, rolling countryside of central Montgomery County, with a largely agricultural character and many properties still on well and septic. Pool installations on septic lots require a minimum 10-foot setback from all septic system components, and well-head separation requirements affect chemical storage locations. Open, wind-exposed lots in Worcester require more windbreak planting at the property perimeter and more attention to anchoring hardscape edges against frost heave on the windward side. Rocky subsoil is common on the upland ground of Worcester. The township sits on the same crystalline rock formation that underlies much of Skippack, and pools and wall footings on higher-elevation properties may encounter ledge rock that requires hydraulic breaking equipment. Worcester's zoning board has historically been conservative on impervious-surface variance requests, so Blue Tree designs to fit within the allowable coverage calculation from the beginning rather than planning to seek a variance later. The township administers its own permits through a joint code administration arrangement with neighboring municipalities. Blue Tree has served Worcester Township since 1983.
Soil around Worcester is predominantly clay, with stretches of rockier ground on the higher, open terrain. Clay holds moisture and creates drainage challenges, while rock complicates excavation for pools and footings. Both have to be addressed during installation, not discovered after the fact. Soil amendment is part of nearly every planting project we complete here, and proper drainage design is built into every hardscape and pool plan.
We also design around realities Worcester homeowners know: deer pressure is heavy across the farmland and wooded lots, freeze-thaw cycles heave shallow-rooted plants and shift improperly based pavers, and Worcester Township has its own permitting requirements for pools, structures, impervious surfaces, and stormwater management, with open-space and agricultural overlays on some parcels. Based minutes away on Skippack Pike in Schwenksville, we have filed those permits and solved those drainage problems all over the township. That local knowledge is something no out-of-town contractor can match.

Common Questions

Blue Tree Outdoor Living serves Worcester Township homeowners with the full suite of outdoor services, including custom pool design and construction, natural stone and paver hardscape, landscape design and installation, Healthy Yards lawn and turf programs, irrigation, outdoor lighting, and Premier Outdoor Services for ongoing property care. Worcester is a short drive from our design center at 4494 Skippack Pike, making it one of our most accessible service areas. We regularly work on estate properties, horse farms, and historic stone farmhouses throughout the township, from the Cedar Hill Golf Club area to the rural corridors along Zacharias Creek. Request a Free Consultation to talk through what your property needs.

Worcester Township's larger lot sizes and agricultural soils create a distinctive set of challenges. Many properties sit on Manor shale soils on south and east-facing slopes, which drain quickly but are thin and stony, making deep root establishment difficult without soil amendment. Valley areas near Zacharias Creek transition to heavier clay loam that stays saturated through spring. Historic stone farmhouses often have established grading patterns that fight modern drainage solutions. The township's preserved farmland borders bring increasing deer pressure, and Japanese beetle grub populations are active in turf from June through August. Large-acreage estate work is our specialty, and Worcester properties are exactly the scale and character our team is built to handle.

Yes. Worcester Township requires building permits for in-ground pools, fences, decks, and permanent structures. Most hardscape projects on agricultural and residential parcels also require zoning review given the township's mix of conservation and residential zoning districts. Permit applications typically require a site plan showing setbacks from property lines and existing structures, and pool projects require separate electrical and fence permits. Processing time runs approximately six to ten weeks. Properties near Zacharias Creek may also require a review under PA DEP Chapter 105 for any work in or near regulated wetlands. Blue Tree manages the permit application process for all projects and coordinates directly with the Worcester Township offices on your behalf.

Worcester Township's zone 7a climate and larger lots offer real planting latitude. On shale upland soils, drought-tolerant natives like native wild bergamot, rattlesnake master, and prairie dropseed establish well once roots reach past the thin topsoil. For estate properties with mature tree canopy, native ferns, Solomon's seal, and woodland phlox perform beautifully in dappled shade. Screen plantings along large lot edges do well with American holly, native viburnums, and inkberry. Deer pressure is increasing as the farmland buffer shrinks, so we specify proven deer-resistant selections by default on all Worcester properties. Spotted Lanternfly management is active throughout the township; our Healthy Yards programs include monitoring and tree-of-heaven removal.

Blue Tree Outdoor Living has served Worcester Township for decades, and has been in business for 43 years since founding in Norristown in 1983. Worcester Township sits directly adjacent to our Schwenksville headquarters on Skippack Pike, making it one of our closest and most familiar service territories. Our teams work on properties throughout the township including the Cedar Hill Golf Club corridor, properties along Forty Foot Road, Valley Forge Road, and the agricultural estates along Zacharias Creek. With 70 to 90 employees during peak season, we have the crew capacity to handle Worcester's large-acreage projects without the scheduling delays smaller firms face. Zip code 19490 (Worcester) and 19438 (Harleysville, for northern Worcester addresses) are both in our regular rotation.

Worcester Township's large lots and estate-scale properties require a firm with real capacity and deep regional knowledge. Blue Tree brings both. Our team carries 13 to 14 year average employee tenure, which means the crew arriving on your property has likely worked on similar Worcester properties before. Chad Ochnich's ICPI certification ensures our hardscape is installed to the standards required by large structural patio and driveway projects. Our pool team's 15 years of construction experience extends to complex natural-edge and freeform pool designs well suited to the character of Worcester estate homes. We work with Belgard, Techo-Bloc, and Unilock materials and hold relationships with Penn State Cooperative Extension for horticultural guidance on regional soils.
