Polymeric sand is a joint-filling compound that contains fine sand blended with polymer binders. Once activated with water, it hardens to resist ant infiltration, weed germination, and joint erosion. Blue Tree specifies ASTM-compliant polymeric sand rated to negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit, which means it remains flexible rather than cracking during southeastern PA freeze-thaw cycles. Application technique matters. The surface must be completely dry before sweeping polymeric sand into joints, and any excess must be blown off the paver face before activation.
