Why Montgomery County Homeowners Have Trusted Blue Tree Since 1983

Our story started in 1983, right here in Montgomery County. What began as a small residential landscape operation has grown into a full-service design-build firm with 70 to 90 team members, six degree-holding designers with a combined 100-plus years of experience, and a production calendar that spans pools, patios, landscapes, turf care, and year-round maintenance. Through all of that growth, one thing has never changed: this is our home.
Our headquarters sits at 4494 Skippack Pike, minutes from every community in central Montgomery County. We do not commute from an hour away to work on your property. We drive past your neighborhood on the way to our own homes. We file permits in your township every week. We know which plants thrive in your soil, which pavers hold up on your terrain, and which drainage solutions solve the problems that are specific to your part of the county.
What matters most to us is the relationship. We are building pools and patios for the children of clients we worked with 25 years ago. Our designers develop friendships with homeowners that last long after the project is complete. As Jeff, our founder, was told early on: "All you have in life is your reputation." That advice has guided every decision we have made for more than four decades, and it is why Montgomery County homeowners continue to trust Blue Tree with their most important outdoor projects.

Custom Pool Construction

Blue Tree Outdoor Living is one of the only full-service design-build firms in Montgomery County that handles custom pool construction in-house, from design and permitting through excavation, plumbing, plaster, and decking. We have been building inground pools for 15 years using premium Jandy equipment, and our approach is different: we do not just build the pool and leave. We design the entire backyard environment, including the pool, patio, landscaping, lighting, and drainage, as one integrated project. That is what turnkey means at Blue Tree.

Landscape Design & Installation

Our landscape design and installation services are led by degree-holding designers who create custom plans using CAD software and 3D renderings. We source approximately 90 percent of our plant material from local growers, design for four-season interest and long-term performance, and back every planting with a one-year warranty. Whether you need a foundation planting refresh, a native garden installation, or a complete property transformation, our design team builds the plan around your vision, lifestyle, and budget.

Hardscape Design & Installation

From paver patios and outdoor kitchens to retaining walls, fire pits, and walkways, our hardscape design and installation services transform your property with durable, low-maintenance materials. All work complies with Montgomery County township building codes. Our designers integrate hardscape elements with the surrounding landscape and pool environment to create a cohesive outdoor living space, not a collection of disconnected projects.

Designed for Montgomery County's Climate, Soil, and Character

Montgomery County sits in the transition zone between USDA hardiness zones 6b and 7a, which means your outdoor space has to tolerate winter lows that dip below zero and summer heat that regularly exceeds 90 degrees. Our designers account for both extremes in every plan, selecting plant material, hardscape surfaces, and pool equipment that perform reliably across the full range of conditions. We have built in every corner of the county, from the older clay soils around Norristown and Plymouth Meeting to the rockier ground out near Skippack and Schwenksville, so the plan you receive is shaped by what actually works on your street.
Soil conditions vary across the county, but clay-heavy soils are the dominant reality in most Montgomery County communities. Clay retains moisture, resists root penetration, and creates drainage challenges that must be addressed during installation, not discovered after the fact. Soil amendment is part of nearly every planting project we complete, and proper drainage design is built into every hardscape and pool plan.
We also design around realities that homeowners here know well: deer pressure is significant in many wooded communities, freeze-thaw cycles heave shallow-rooted plants and shift improperly based pavers, and each township, from Skippack to Lower Merion to Whitemarsh, has its own permitting requirements for pools, structures, impervious surfaces, and stormwater management. After more than four decades of building in Montgomery County, we have filed permits, solved drainage problems, and sourced plant material for every condition this county presents. That institutional knowledge is something no newcomer can replicate.

Blue Tree is a full-service design-build firm. We handle custom inground pool construction, landscape design and installation, hardscaping such as paver patios, outdoor kitchens, retaining walls, fire pits, and walkways, Healthy Yards turf care programs, and Premier Outdoor Services maintenance. Because every service is delivered in-house by one team, your pool, patio, planting, and lighting are designed and built as one integrated project rather than handed off to separate contractors.

Blue Tree was founded in 1983 and has worked in Montgomery County for more than four decades. Our headquarters has been in Skippack since 2008. Over that time we have grown to 70 to 90 team members and now build for the children of clients we first worked with 25 years ago. That local track record is a large part of why Montgomery County homeowners trust us with their most significant outdoor projects.

Yes. Blue Tree files permits in Montgomery County townships every week and handles the permitting process in-house, from applications through inspections. Requirements vary by municipality, and many townships enforce impervious surface limits and stormwater rules that affect pool size, patio area, and drainage. Your designer confirms the specific requirements for your township during the on-site evaluation, so construction starts with every approval in place.

Montgomery County sits in the transition between USDA hardiness zones 6b and 7a, with clay-heavy soils, freeze-thaw winters, and significant deer pressure in wooded communities. Those conditions shape every plan we create, from plant selection and drainage design to how pavers and pool shells are based. Our designers account for the realities of your specific neighborhood instead of applying a one-size-fits-all template.

Every project starts with a free on-site consultation. A Blue Tree designer, not a salesperson, walks your property, listens to how you want to use the space, and discusses your budget. From there you receive a custom design with 3D renderings and an itemized proposal, so you see exactly what you are getting before any work begins. Request a consultation through our online form to start.
