Our story started in 1983, right here in Montgomery County. What began as a small residential landscape operation has grown into a full-service design-build firm with 70 to 90 team members, 8 or more designers and sales professionals on staff, and a production calendar that spans pools, patios, landscapes, turf care, and year-round maintenance. Through all of that growth, one thing has never changed: this is our home.
Before design begins in Montgomery County, the team studies access, grade, drainage, existing structures, utilities, and how the proposed work connects to the rest of the property. Those observations shape the first concept and scope.
What matters most to us is the relationship. We are building pools and patios for the children of clients we worked with 25 years ago. Our designers develop friendships with homeowners that last long after the project is complete. As Jeff, our founder, was told early on: "All you have in life is your reputation." Soil conditions vary across the county, but clay-heavy soils are the dominant reality in most Montgomery County communities. Clay retains moisture, resists root penetration, and creates drainage challenges that must be addressed during installation, not discovered after the fact. Soil amendment is part of nearly every planting project we complete, and proper drainage design is built into every hardscape and pool plan.
Freeze-thaw cycles make drainage, base preparation, material selection, and installation details important across Southeastern Pennsylvania. In Montgomery County, Blue Tree also plans around mature trees, property access, grade changes, and the level of upkeep the homeowner wants.

Blue Tree's 2026 planning ranges are $10,000 to $80,000 or more for landscape projects, $15,000 to $100,000 or more for hardscape projects, and $75,000 to $200,000 or more for an inground pool project. A complete backyard transformation may reach $150,000 to $400,000 or more. Final pricing depends on site access, permits, materials, finishes, and scope.

Project timing depends on scope, access, design decisions, material availability, municipal review, and seasonal conditions. Blue Tree provides a current schedule after the property and approved scope are evaluated.

Concrete interlocking pavers from Belgard, Techo-Bloc, and Unilock perform best in Montgomery County because they handle freeze-thaw cycles better than poured concrete. The region sees freeze-thaw fluctuations from October through March, and poured slabs develop cracks when water infiltrates and refreezes. Pavers flex as individual units and are repairable section by section. For structural applications such as retaining walls, we use Techo-Bloc and Belgard units that meet ASTM C1491 standards. A common mistake homeowners make is choosing the cheapest base preparation to save money up front. In Worsham clay soils, an undersized gravel base compresses under load and causes settling within two to three winters. Chad Ochnich, our ICPI-certified team member, specifies base depth based on actual soil conditions at each site.

Permit, zoning, stormwater, and historic-review requirements vary by municipality, project scope, and site conditions. PA DEP Chapter 105 may apply when work involves a regulated water obstruction or encroachment.
